Sustainability

Our commitment is concrete and verified!

We have adopted the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) criteria and in January 2024 we have obtained the GSTC certification

Our mission

Give our guests a welcoming and comfortable experience, sharing the culture and traditions of the area.
Create an inclusive, participatory and safe working environment, ensuring environmental, social and financial sustainability.

Our commitment

In May 2023 we decided to undertake an ambitious continuous improvement project to reduce the City Hotel's impact on the environment and the local community. We have activated a conscious and sustainable management process from all points of view: Environmental, Social, Cultural and Economic.

Our values

Honesty and transparency.
Respect and attention.
Integrity andauthenticity.

Our concrete commitment in the daily management of the hotel:

  • Sustainable and Nordic Swan Ecolabel certified courtesy line
  • Self-production of electricity with photovoltaic system since 2016
  • Monitoring and containment of consumption
  • Careful selection of partners and suppliers: we have chosen a supply chain based on geographical proximity. 59% of our goods suppliers are local, located within 100 km of the hotel. This ensures a short supply chain, lower transport-related emissions, and tangible support for the local economy.
  • Participation in the Stay for the Planet, Stay Plasticless, Go.Get.Green and Best Western Italia’s Energy Plan programs
  • Support to the local community with concrete actions:
    • The spaces of our hotel are a showcase for the Cooperativa Cartiera, which in 2017 developed an ethical fashion laboratory by activating an ethically and socially sustainable production process. It produces leather and fabric accessories, recovering high quality raw materials and employing people in disadvantaged conditions.
    • In the hotel you can also buy “sustainable souvenirs”: the fantastic key ring tortellini by DubleTrouble – Margherita and Caterina aim to support a culture of circular and sustainable fashion, based in particular on the reuse of materials. The tortellini are created with waste leather and handcrafted.

Accessibility and Sustainable mobility

City Hotel Bologna offers full 100% accessibility for guests with physical disabilities. All rooms and common areas are barrier-free, with spaces designed to ensure easy movement, autonomy, and safety. The hotel thus guarantees a standard of universal accessibility, ideal for guests with reduced mobility, wheelchair users, and their companions.

The hotel is also directly connected to sustainable transport: just a few meters from the entrance, guests can find an e-bike sharing station and a bus/tram stop. These services allow easy access to the city center and main points of interest, reducing car use and contributing to a more responsible travel experience.

Local Products and Short Supply Chain

Our restaurant uses fresh, local ingredients, sourced through a traceable short supply chain.

The meats come from Golinelli 1975, a historic local producer renowned for quality and raw material control. Fresh pasta is supplied by Pastificio Dal Fiume, an artisanal workshop known for its daily production and the use of carefully selected ingredients.

Choosing local suppliers helps reduce food miles, support the local economy, and ensure dishes prepared with ingredients of verified origin. The consistent use of locally sourced meats and fresh pasta reflects a concrete commitment to sustainability, gastronomic authenticity, and nutritional quality.

The hotel has benefited from financial support from the European Union for the Emilia-Romagna Region, which has enabled redevelopment, technological innovation and improved accessibility, making the facility more modern, efficient and sustainable.
